In investigating the food at Rowan, as students, we have a few biases that might effect our research and eventual findings. For one, since we began attending Rowan we've been immersed in rumors surrounding the food. The most pervasive of these rumors that many students still believe is that Sodexo puts additives in their food that flushes it out of the students' systems very quickly to ensure that people don't get sick from potentially undercooked or spoiled food. Despite being disputed by Sodexo's national public relations multiple times, many students still assume this to be a fact and deny Sodexo's claims as corporate lies. Also, as students, we know the pricing of the meals at Rowan and are therefore biased to believe, given the quality of the food, that it is overpriced and that we are being cheated in terms of what we're getting for our money. As a whole, we view matters at Rowan involving food in a negative light mainly because of our experiences and the experiences of others. Now that we are aware of these biases though, we hope to be able to conquer them and make them a non-issue in terms of our research.
